Life is like a box of chocolates….

20 May

You never know what you’re gonna get!

How true was Forrest Gump when he said those lines?  Sometimes we have to stop and smell the roses and today that’s just what I did :)

I can’t begin to tell you Groover’s how nice it was to sleep in and fly out to Sydney at the decent time of 1.30pm.  Lately I seem to be flying at atrocious hours that honestly should be illegal hehehe.

And get this; today we had a female pilot.

She sounded very professional and very confident and it had me thinking….  Imagine if it was a lady pilot and she came over the loud speaker not sounding very confident at all!!!

“Ladies and Gentleman Good Afternoon. Ummmmm so today (and her voice is a bit shakey and quietttttt) we will be flying into Sydney.  Long pause…. And then she stars again with her spiel but you kinda don’t believe that you are really gonna get there in one piece! Hehehe.

And can I just say, the same goes if it was a man pilot too.  But geez today to hear a female as the pilot well it sure made me proud and think about how far women have come in the workplace :)

I had a great view from my window seat flying into Sydney City!

There was also this great documentary shown on board, on Mark Zuckerberg who is the founder of Facebook.

I found it very interesting and it def made you think about how far we have actually come in the last 7 years since he created it!!  And how it’s become a big part of our lives.

So my brother Matthew picked me up from the airport and we did the whole touristy thing cause normally I am staying in the city and don’t get to drive out to the beaches.  So Matthew took me to Coogee where he lives, to Bondi and then eventually we arrived at South Head.  Which is what they call The Heads.

Now when I was 20 and went on my very first cruise, we left from Sydney and coming back two weeks later I tried soooo very hard to stay awake to see the ship coming back through Sydney Heads, but as per normal now with any cruise I seem to come back sick as a dog.  Of course this isn’t due to partying too much or hardly sleeping…. HONEST!

And then approx. 10 years later I vowed that this time I WOULD STAY AWAKE to see Sydney Heads and YES I was sick yet again…. But this time I made it!  I just had to be wrapped in a blanket to keep warm and later in the day when I returned home to Brisbane I was delirious but hey!  I made it and saw Sydney Heads and that’s all that mattered! Hehehe.

So this afternoon we timed it, or should I say MATTHEW TIMED IT very well that we arrived just as a ship was leaving.  Not sure which one but I am voting for the Pacific Jewel :)   It was an amazing view that’s for sure.

And this part of Sydney is also known as The Gap and is a well-known place where people jump off the cliffs and take their own lives.

Hence the Lifeline and OOO phone.  Which is very sad to see but I guess also a good thing that it’s there to help people when they are in that very dark place.

We then walked down to the pub and had a lovely meal with an amazing view looking out over Sydney Harbour and the city.

Mmmm yummy Steak Burgers.

Matthew took me to Macquarie’s Chair and through (I think) the Botanical Gardens and then we drove over the Harbour Bridge, which I haven’t done for many years.

We actually stopped to check out the view!

This picture was taken by Matthew, because he is better than me at night time shots!!!  Noooo not the drinks… mmm on second thoughts hahaha.

So who is Matthew I hear you ask.  Well you see Matthew and I share a father, so he really is my half brother BUT I am not into all that crap, so to me he is my brother :)

And when I was a little girl I used to fly once a year all by myself on a plane to visit my Dad who lived in Sydney.  So tonight driving around I remembered a few things that I haven’t thought of in many years.  And it’s also nice to not only see Matthew but to spend time with him and talk about our Dad and memories that I vaguely have from when I was little.

Then it was time to check in to my hotel and this Hot Man was waiting for me!!

I also found him in my bed, but that’s a wholeeeeeeee other Blog! tee hee

So we dropped my bags off and then went across to the Bavarian Beer House for a Coffee!!! Honesttttttttttttttttt that’s what we did!!!  And you have to laugh because on our way back we were chatting about girls and how they dress now days and hello, this one young girl and a boy came out of our hotel and she was dressed in a very skimpy outfit.

But here is the thing:  they actually stopped to talk to us and they were going to a Barbie & Ken Party, she was Barbie and he was Ken.  Funny that.

And can I just say that the Ken we met really did kinda look like this Ken.  And Barbie too, except it was a black short dress!

And she also ask us if she looked like a “Drag Queen” as she was wearing a wig and wanted to also know if it looked fake.  True Story.

Now I don’t really think she did but I did say to her that I thought her skirt was too short as she had tucked it up into her pants.  Thank god I wasn’t weraring the same outfit, cause I nearly did today and that would have been embarrassing hehehe.  So she pulled out her skirt and yes it was still short, but she looked way better.

She then high fived Matthew and I with her orange stained Oompa Loompa hands.  She was def a bit too orange, but that bit I didn’t say LOL.

Then two more people emerged from my building, and yes they were also dressed as Ken and Barbie.  This time Barbie No. 2 had denim shorts, well I guess you would call them that.  I think my Grandad would have said that both girls had heads on them like a half sucked Mango and that the denim shorts were more like a denim handkerchief! Hehehe

So that was my Day/Night.  Fun hey……

Matthew has gone home with my free Red Wine (I only drink White) and I am getting a little weary and I am looking forward to having a nice long sleep in tomorrow morning before I go out on my next adventure.

Stay tuned okkkk

P.S.

The whole Life is like a box of chocolates, well a good friend of mine, we shall call him Mr M, is currently not having the best time and last Thursday had 3/4 of a brain tumour removed and then had to go back to hospital last night as he was in a lot of pain.  Mr M is writing a blog and his honesty and his humour, in such a trying time in life are just amazing.  I think he is very very brave and my thoughts, love and prayers go out to him and his Babe as I can only imagine how Babe is coping at the moment.

Sometimes in life we think we have it bad, that our lives suck, that other people have it better, have more money, have better things.  But Groover’s take a good look around you, be thankful for the things that you do have, because life is short.  Cherish those that you love and always tell them.

And Mr M, chin up my friend, we love you lots and remember you have lots of friends rooting for you.  Ok, not THAT kinda rooting…. mmm well maybe they are! hehehe.  Love ya Mr M.  Your Babe No. 2 xxx
